"The Glass of Wine (detail)" by Johannes Vermeer
This section of painting shows some of the intricate detail Vermeer was famous for. He loved painting highly patterned fabrics, complex embroidery, gossamer lace, and striking reflections. In fact, I think he was a bit of a showoff! Some art historians say he used a mechanical device to pull this off. Historical note: Men watching women drink wine was a very popular 17th century pastime.
