"Gauguin’s Armchair" by Vincent Van Gogh
For some reason, I love chairs in pictures. Other slightly more famous artists also seem to be drawn to them. For the painter they provide a nice platform for placing or hanging objects for a still life. In Vincent’s painting he has used a candle and a couple of books to represent his friend Gauguin. Much symbolism has been woven into this piece but I see it as an artist using objects readily available to construct a nice still life. Sometimes you just want to paint.
