"Self Portrait with Seven Fingers" by Marc Chagall
I am a big fan of Self Portraits and I love this one. Chagall was Russian,French, and Jewish – Three things I know very little about so don’t expect a deep analysis here. Chagall poses himself in his Paris studio painting a village scene while dreaming of his home town. He has seven fingers on one hand and the woman feeding the goat is headless. If the farm woman is his mother, we needn’t dwell on Marc’s excess fingers for significance. Further analysis needed.
