This Week : How to be a great figurative artist without painting faces. I love Alex Colville’s beautiful compositions depicting moments within everyday life that seem to catch people in the act of something unknown. He does this brilliantly time and again without actually painting the face or faces of his subjects. Here, the binoculars not only obscure the face, they also become the focal point of the piece. She can see you but you can’t see her. Very nice.
