"Soldier and Girl at Station" by Alex Colville
Darn, I wish I had shown you this yesterday! I love this painting of two people coming together in a deserted train station. The infinite train, the stool and the discarded briefcase all lead us to the embracing couple. No need to show us their faces, we can figure it out. It is strange that the platform is deserted even though a train is in the station. Many of Colville’s settings remind me of the intimate solitude of an Edward Hopper painting. I don’t want to call Colville “The Canadian Edward Hopper”, but I will.
