"Dog and Priest" by Alex Colville
In 1978 Alex took a new painting to his gallery entitled “Priest on the Dock”. The curator wasn’t keen on the picture because of the subject matter and the odd expression on the priest’s face. She told Colville as such and he left the gallery crestfallen. On his walk home he encountered a friendly Black Lab and the light bulb went off. He hurried to his studio, reworked the piece, and the rest is history. Art history. Tomorrow : “Cat and Nun”.
