"The Crucifixion" by Fernando Botero
Gauguin did “The Yellow Christ” so Botero throws “The Green Christ” at us. In Gauguin’s painting Christ is thin and emaciated. In this version the Good Lord is large and buff. What else would you expect from our man Botero? I love the Central Park setting and the little people going about their business as Christ bleeds on the cross. The miracle for me is how Botero is able to handle subjects such as this, gang violence, and Abu Ghraib with reverence and dignity while depicting only fat people. Amen.
