"The Sand Bar" by Frederick Horsman Varley
This sketch is of Vancouver’s Jericho beach with the North Shore Mountains in the background. Like GNAY, Fred wasn’t big on details or representing a perfect likeness. The colours in this painting are quite extraordinary. Pinks, purples, oranges and gold are all quite unexpected by me. I have been staring at the White Rock Beach for a while now and all I see is gray sand, gray water, gray rocks, and gray logs. I will have to look a little harder on my next visit or perhaps adjust my attitude with a small dose of LSD. All in the name of art of course!
