I think most people recognize this famous American painting. It depicts Wyeth’s neighbor, crippled by polio, crawling through a field towards her house. Strong stuff, very moving. But, what really intrigues me about this painting is the fact that 92% of the picture is pretty much blank. I will spell it out for you. Field, field, field, field, field, sky, sky, sky, woman, house. To me not a great formulae for artistic success but Wyeth really makes it work. Tomorrow, let’s see what else this “Magic Realist” painter has to offer.
