"Nighthawks" by Edward Hooper
I am currently doing research for a “café” painting from my past. Cafes have always been popular as both hangouts and as subjects for artists. This one is a beauty and it typifies the quiet solitude that Hooper was famous for. What makes it great for me is what he has left out. The lonely mood is created by the lack of action and detail. My café was not a lonely place but since it is memory based I am sure to leave out more than I put in. The true hallmark of a great artist. (my words).
