"No. 7" by Mark Rothko
So, Vincent dead at 37, Pollock dead at 44, kudos to Rothko, he made it to 66 before slashing his wrists. Many famous artists have gone through a “Blue Period” (eg. Picasso, GNAY) indicating some sadness in the artist’s life and work. But a “Black Period”? To me that signals you have really thrown in the towel. Here is the little known part : prior to slashing his wrists, Mark tried for years to kill himself the slow way with booze and cigarettes. What brand did he smoke? Rothman’s No. 7. Talk about a cry for help!
