"Clown with Cigar" by Red Skelton
Why? Why do artists paint them? Why do collectors buy them? Red Skelton was a TV Comedian in the 1960’s who often portrayed a clown. So what we have here is a clown painting by a clown. Paint what you know, I guess. He painted over a 1,000 like this and made millions in the process. Skelton is not the only one. Many famous artists have also tackled this lame subject. All I can say is – why?
