"Bare Tree behind a Fence" by Egon Schiele
I quite like this landscape. Even though it is a bare tree on a cold day the painting still has a certain warmth. I think Egon was taken by Van Gogh’s work and the influence shows here. Thick paint, crosshatched field, tree blending into sky, blah blah blah. On the matter of Egon’s untimely death at the age of 28 I’m sure you want to know if it was suicide, or drugs, or syphilis. Well it was none of the above – it was the flu. Ah the good old days! Next week: Hitler vs. Klimt.
