"The Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo
Around about 1500 the dank fog that has been hanging over Europe miraculously lifts and a renaissance in art explodes across the continent. Artists are still doing mainly biblical scenes, and will for quite a while, but they are doing them with greater technique and panache. This painting on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel shows the use of shading and perspective to perfection. Michelangelo fun fact #1: he spent weekends deep in the Roman Catacombs dissecting bodies in order to sculpt and paint them more realistically. Would GNAY do this? No, but I did binge watch all five seasons of Quincy.
