"The Nightwatch" by Rembrandt
A couple of hundred years later and Rembrandt is now doing his thing in Holland. Loaded with guns and goatees this huge Baroque masterpiece is one of the world’s most famous paintings. Measuring 12 by 15 feet, the dudes at the front are pretty much life size. The revolutionary thing about this painting is of course Rembrandt’s masterful use of light and shadow. He was paid a huge amount for this commission and spent most of it on booze and broads. Sadly, he squandered the rest.
