"Melancholy" by Edvard Munch
As there is a time and a place for sad music, there is also for sad paintings. Hey this is a tough business and you can’t be happy all the time! Also, I don’t think the mood of the painting is necessarily the mood of the painter as he paints it. Here, the father of “The Scream”, shows us some serious sadness. The man’s pensive expression is beautifully reflected in the sad and mysterious landscape that surrounds him. Even though there is lots of sky and water Munch doesn’t resort to the colour blue to create the mood. Well done Edvard. Get ready for a sad week.
