"Melancholy" by Paul Gauguin
Gauguin lays down some Tahitian sadness with this effort from 1891. To me, it seems a bit forced. I mean, what was there to be sad about in paradise? Just in case you don’t get it from the title or the expression on the girls face, Gauguin plants a hanky in her hand. Boo-hoo. To me that’s sad. At least the dress isn’t blue. Tomorrow : just plain sad.
