"Early Morning P.T. Petawawa" by E.J. Hughes
Here is a rare figurative piece by Hughes. During WWII he was one of our official war artists. A good army can never have enough artists. In fact, if I were in charge armies would only have artists. Anyways, I love the lighting and movement in this painting. It is strongly reminiscent of Van Gogh’s, “Prisoners Exercising”, from his stay at the insane asylum in Saint-Remy. Round and round they go. Where we stop nobody knows.
