This to me is the angry E.J. Hughes; angry boats on an angry sea under an angry sky.  These are not happy little boats huffing and puffing a little steam; they are demon ships spewing nasty black smoke into the air. Painted in 1948 I think E.J. was way ahead of his time in alerting us to the perils of polluting a fragile planet. He uses a skewed perspective and simplified shapes to attract us, and adds a message to keep us. Very much like GNAY! This painting recently sold for $1,100,000.
