"Abstract No. 20" by Lawren Harris
Confession: Yesterday I just made that bit up about Harris having a mistress. However, in 1934 with great artistic flair, Lawren did leave his wife of 24 years. Under threat of bigamy charges, he and his new gal fled to the US, but in 1940 they ended up in Vancouver. Here Lawren painted a bunch of cool abstracts like this one. Natural and rhythmic they still seem to imbue his love of the Canadian landscape. Great news! Tomorrow we are invited to LA’s Hammer Gallery and the opening of their new exhibition “The Idea of North”. I hear Taylor Swift might be there!
