"Kandinsky and Erma Bossi" by Gabriele Munter
In 1902 at the tender age of 25 Gabriele began art lessons under Wassily Kandinsky. They became lovers and the married Kandinsky promised Gabriele he would soon leave his wife. Great news! Twelve years later he finally did, but sadly only to marry another woman. I’m intrigued but not surprised by Munter’s portrayal of Kandinsky in this painting. Can you say Jesus? All that’s missing is his golden halo! Do you think she did this consciously? I don’t, but the paintbrush never lies.
