Lichtenstein was a Pop Art Giant, second only to Andy Warhol. Here he has taken Van Gogh’s painting of the same name, modernized it, and made it his own. Critics raved. “So clever the way he has upgraded the chairs, the shirts, and the floor”. I think it’s a decent effort, but for me, his pop art spin crushes the spirit of Vincent’s original painting. If I was, and I intend to, paint the GNAY version of this room in Arles, it will pay homage to the great Dutch painter, not belittle him.
