“Noa Noa ” by Ganu Naru
The inhabitants of a small south seas atoll were quite surprised when their high priestess, “Ganu Naru”, produced this primitive but thought provoking island landscape. The priestess, 86 years old and blind from birth, previously showed no interest in the arts (other than black), before dashing off this small painting. The middle ground portrayal of a small cooler, beach towel, and “Chi-Chi” has raised some eyebrows in the native community. Glasses and towels are completely unknown to this simple, but happy culture, that frolics in the nude and drinks from coconuts. Art experts and parapsychologists alike, believe a vision or possession may have prompted the creation of this whimsical but disturbing piece.
