“The Bathers” by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
If Renoir wasn’t Renoir, this “craft fair crisis” would be hanging in a dark basement instead of Paris’s Musee d’Orsay. Not surprisingly, the museum was gifted this painting by Renoir’s son, which no doubt generated a multi-million-dollar tax receipt for the lad. Try doing that with a lessor GNAY (if there is one) and Revenue Canada will seize your assets! (I should know – they did it to me). Although nothing works for me in this painting, I don’t want to be too critical of a fellow artist, so I will just give you one thing to think about. Is the naked woman in the middle lying contentedly on a bush? Is she? (don’t try this at home) Sorry Pete, you mailed this one in, and it shows.
Side Note: This painting is not currently on display – it’s in their basement.
