I have always been inspired by and have an affinity for Paul Gauguin. He was a successful stockbroker who gave it all up for his art work. What I like about this painting is the merging of the self portrait with a mysterious landscape. His face and expression are vague. Instead, he reveals himself through his landscape and placement in it. I just quit my job as a stock broker to pursue my art. I can only hope the similarities don’t end there!
