"Charing Cross Bridge" by Andre Derain
Here is Andre Derain’s attempt at painting a bridge. Although not in the same league as GNAY, this French Fauvist, well known for his use of wild colours and LSD, creates a pretty good painting around a bridge. Faced with a mass of grey girders and boring concrete piers, Derain uses a riot of colour to obfuscate his boring subject. He also uses smoke, but no mirrors. It would appear the trick to painting a bridge is to not paint the bridge. I think I can do that.
