"Woman with Revolver" by Alex Colville
Checkhov says, “Don’t introduce a gun in the first act unless you are willing to use it later.” Well, guess what? Checkhov was a writer not a painter and that rule doesn’t apply here. In this painting it is unclear whether the gun will be used OR has been used. This ambiguity is further enhanced because we cannot see the expression on the woman’s face. For me it is the unknown that intrigues. All in all, a fabulous, faceless, figurative composition.
