"The Listening Room" 1952 by Rene Magritte
This is arguably the greatest still life ever created, and due to the soaring cost of fruit, nothing like it will ever be done again. This is a very large apple. James and the Giant Peach large! I don’t know where Magritte got it, or how he got it into the room, but it is very impressive. I have done some math and at today’s prices, even in season, a 2,400 lb apple like this comes in at $2,160! Like I said – never to be repeated. Conclusion: The soaring cost of fruits and vegetables has rendered still life painting unrealistic for most artists. Sadly, the art of still life is dead. Sniff, sniff. QED
