Joseph Bangsund’s work is an abstract study of structure; the structure of language, of thoughts, of liquids, of the air, of the human body and emotion. Working in layers, he creates images that generate psychic and emotional spaces, at once intimate, yet haunting. His use of this space offers the viewer multiple perspectives and a dynamic visual experience. He works with acrylics, inks, gouache, and other mixed media such as clothing, textiles, metallics, and collage to create his oeuvre, which includes installation, series and unique pieces. The palette is discreet, organic and crisp. The aesthetic evokes a dance of waves, the flow of intertwined bodies or of colliding winds. By at times incorporating words or sentences into his works, a brief glimpse of internal dialogue with the viewer is shared.
