Alea Drain, a Toronto-born artist, grew up in central Pennsylvania only to return to Canada as soon as humanly possible. Having received her bachelor’s degree in Drawing & Painting with a minor in Material Art & Design: Fibres, it comes as no surprise that she obsessively draws and is heavily influenced by textile practices, patterns and media. Her debut solo exhibition consisted of machine embroidered drawings without thread; a puncture technique developed in the Fibre studio of OCADU. Currently she is exploring the use of india ink, tiny pens, mylar and watercolour.
